Mt. Pulag: Playground of the Gods - Benguet

On January 2012, the team embarked on a different journey, a trip higher than the clouds. The Playground of the Gods, that's what the locals call this sacred place. Mount Pulag is the highest peak in the island of Luzon, Philippines. Standing high at 2,922 meters above sea level,  it covers 3 provinces on the north namely Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao.

Travel time alone requires at least 12-15 hours from Manila. That's 8-10 hours travel by bus from Manila to Baguio, the another 4-5 hours travel by jeepney to the jump-off. That's via the Ambangeg trail. I heard that the jump-off for Akiki trail is a lot more farther. The usual itinerary is that you leave Manila at night and just sleep you way going there. The next morning you will be in Baguio, then arrange for jeepney ride going to the DENR jump-off.

Night sky in Mt. Pulag camp site is magnificent. Too bad, these photos are failed attempts at getting a Milky way shot, guess we did it too early in the night or something, I was in the process of learning at that moment so please bear with me.

We camped at the saddle, which took us at least 5-6 hours from the jump off. The image below shows my team mates descending thru the steep trail going to the camp.
